A Ride for Life

A homeless man came to Clinic with a Heart for care. He had been sick for a while, had been taken to the Emergency Room only one week earlier, and discharged for follow-up care. But when he called for an appointment, he was told there would be a charge – and he didn’t have the money.  He returned to his room at the City Mission to recover, where he heard about Clinic with a Heart over the PA system. When he arrived at the Clinic, Dr. R examined him and sent him immediately back to the emergency room via ambulance along with a note explaining the circumstances and directing care. A volunteer coordinator, followed-up to make sure he was okay, and the patient was subsequently admitted to the hospital with pericarditis. When he came back to the Clinic several weeks later he thanked Clinic with a Heart volunteers. “If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be here today”.
